What catches people out

Louisiana banned transfer taxes in 2011, but New Orleans kept the flat documentary tax it already had. It is $325 whether the house sells for $150,000 or $2 million. Everywhere else in Louisiana there is no transfer tax at all. A $500 penalty applies if it is not paid within 30 days.
