What to know about Vermont
Vermont made second homes far more expensive in August 2024. A vacation house now pays 3.62 percent while the same house as a primary residence pays 0.5 percent on the first $200,000. Long-term rentals are excluded from the higher rate. Buyers using VHFA, USDA or VHCB assistance get the first $250,000 exempt.
